MISSION
Our Village Community Partnership believes in empowering, educating and equipping people so that they can have strength, skills and tools necessary to bring long-lasting change to fight poverty in their community. EXCITING NEWS We are celebrating that after years of operating as a CBO (Community Based Organization, recognized at a district level) and earning the respect and partnership of our community, we can now proudly say that we are a registered NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) that is recognized at a national level by the Ugandan Government for the work we are doing in our communities. OUR TEAM OVCP is lead and ran by an amazing team of Ugandan's. (We will be posting pictures of our Ugandan leadership and staff in the coming weeks). We partner with different organizations, churches, and individuals in Uganda, Canada, and the United States. Our primary international partners who process donations for OVCP are The Mandate, The Great Commission Foundation and Prairie Harvest Christian Life Centre. |
"In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love" |
Our Beginning
OVCP began with Terra Lorenz and Paul Bogere (a Ugandan) both discovering a corrupt orphanage in Iganga, Uganda where children were living in horrific conditions. Far too often, orphanages are the only line of social support for families in need in Uganda. Families living in extreme poverty often feel that the only way for their child to get access to health care, education and nutrition is by leaving them at an orphanage. Four out of five children in orphanages in Uganda, however, have living relatives. Since 1992 the number of children living in institutions has gone up by 1600%. This has caused families to be separated and children to grow up disconnected from the rest of their society.
Paul and Terra discovered that these families did not want to abandon their children, but saw it as the only way of giving them a chance at a better life. They did not know the journey they were embarking on as they worked to take it over and reconnect the children with their living relatives. Through the difficult and sometimes painful work of reconnecting families - and shifting to empowering, educating and equipping both children and families - Our Village Community Partnership was born.
