You choose the amount you can commit to on a monthly basis and we will keep you updated on your impact through our monthly newsletters and Facebook page.
Let's be honest: Many monthly sponsorship/donor programs give a breakdown of how your "$30 a month" is used to support a child. Unfortunately, that breakdown is usually far from reality. In truth, a large chunk of that money goes to the overhead of the organization and the rest is usually pooled together. Even if the child did receive the full $30 a month, it would not provide a child with a quality education that can get them out of poverty and provide them with nutrition and access to health care. It might be enough to help that child survive, but in most cases, it will not help that child break the cycle of poverty without further interventions. Sadly, this model often just keeps a child alive but does not empower them to thrive.
That is why we strive to take a multi-faceted approach with development at the forefront. We partner with families and the community at large: building infrastructure, creating jobs, educating children and adults, and building up community support networks that empower Ugandan's to lead the way. Will this method take more time and funding? Yes, but that money is fueling real change and development that brings real lasting solutions, not just a band-aid. We are using your donations to not just keep children and families alive, but to empower, educate, and equip them so that they will no longer need financial support.
Why partnership? When you partner with OVCP by donating on a monthly basis you become an essential part of enabling our Ugandan communities to be empowered, educated, and equipped. At OVCP we always want to be cognizant of how and why we do things. We have found that traditional models of support/aid/development in our community have far too often placed the ones receiving the support in a place where they either were made to feel less than - or that someone else had to come in and do it for them, creating a decency in others and not actually empowering the family. We want to see our communities active, engaged, and empowered to be a part of the solution. That is why we believe in partnership, where everyone has an essential part to play.
Why monthly donations? We desire to be thoughtful, honest, and good stewards of all of the funding we receive. Change doesn't happen overnight. All the obstacles that are keeping the families we partner with from getting out of poverty are complex. It takes time and planning to see these families in a place where they are no longer living in poverty. When we can count on your support each month, it allows us to be able to plan long term and be able to make commitments to the families so that we can journey with them to the point where we see them overcoming and thriving.
What your partnership enables OVCP to do: Your monthly support allows our Ugandan staff to be the ones facilitating change in their own communities. Since our staff is from the community, they truly know and understand the struggles of the families we partner with and as a result, they can build a long-term support network. Our goal is to bring real lasting hope and solutions. We do this by providing educational opportunities and teaching skills that can provide our partner families with jobs. We also work to create jobs in our community and bring in infrastructure to facilitate development.
We often find that many of the families we partner with know what they need to be able to provide for their families. Their problem is that they have zero access to the counsel, training, and resources needed to make it happen. Through financial partnership with donors, we are able to fill this gap. We work to not only be a lifeline for families living in isolation and extreme poverty, but also to forge a way forward seeking real lasting solutions that restore families. In order to plan for the future and also to be ready when an emergency arises, we rely heavily on monthly financial partners. Your support enables us to support families and build community development in a holistic and long-term way that empowers Ugandans to lead the way.
